Individual Therapy

A collaborative space to understand yourself, explore familiar patterns, and create room for meaningful change.

An interactive, relational approach

Change begins with
understanding.

I view psychotherapy as a working relationship: a partnership in which we both participate, using my training and experience as a guide.

I am Daniel Brooks, LCSW, an experienced, licensed clinical psychotherapist with offices in Brooklyn’s Park Slope, Manhattan’s Carnegie Hall area, and Palm Desert, California.

I am a graduate of Pennsylvania State University, Fordham University, and the National Institute for the Psychotherapies. Alongside my work with anxiety and depression, my training includes particular attention to couples therapy and issues related to the LGBTQ+ community.

A collaborative process

Originally trained in classical psychoanalysis, I have spent more than 35 years studying different theoretical and practical approaches to treatment. My work is most closely aligned with the relational analytic school, and my style is interactive and motivational.

I believe in progressive change through exploration: looking beneath the surface to understand the experiences, assumptions, and patterns that influence how you feel and how you move through the world.

Recognizing patterns. Making choices.

Many of the behaviors we carry into the present were learned in the past. Some continue to serve us; others may interfere with our relationships, work, creativity, or sense of personal fulfillment.

Therapy offers a place to recognize these patterns and understand how they operate. With greater self-knowledge comes the opportunity to make different choices, both large and small, and to influence the direction of your life.

Together, we can explore what may be blocking you from what you want and work toward meaningful changes in how you feel, relate, and respond.

You do not have to navigate it alone.

The relationship between therapist and patient begins with our first conversation, but it continues to evolve throughout the work. It is a partnership that adjusts and develops as your understanding deepens.

The path is not always straightforward. I see part of my role as helping you look ahead, recognize obstacles, and consider healthier directions that can lead to something new and sustainable.

Experience beyond the consulting room

Alongside my professional training, I consider life experience an important part of what I bring to therapy.

My experiences as a parent and business developer have given me additional ways to understand the responsibilities, uncertainties, and challenges people face. They help inform a practical, human approach to the work we do together.

The possibility of change
“Within this self-knowledge lies the golden opportunity to make a choice, both large and small, to change direction and influence outcome.”
— Daniel Brooks, LCSW
